Family dedication
Quinta de Val da Figueira is located in the Cima Corgo sub-region, on the right bank of the River Douro, in Covas do Douro, 2 km from the village of Pinhão, in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region. It's therefore located in one of the areas that produces the best grapes for the production of Port wines and DOC Douro wines that are internationally recognized for their quality.
The main vineyard area of the estate has been in the family of the current owners for four generations, with some adjacent vineyard areas dating back five generations. The famous map of the Douro River, drawn up by James Forrester and published in 1848, marks Quinta de Val da Figueira, which was founded in the mid-18th century. Following the destruction of the Douro vineyards by the phylloxera scourge, some of the first experiments with American vines were carried out on the property by the then owner during the winters of 1878 and 1879.
